Event at the Acropolis Museum on the occasion of the completion of the exhibition of the American photographer Robert McCabe

“The idea to organize the exhibition “Hail Xenes, in the land of dreams”, with the photographs of Robert McCabe, was born out of our vision for Greek tourism, which serves moderation, balance, respect for man, nature and the traditions of our country. Because through Robert McCabe’s photographs, a timeless Greece, full of emotion, authenticity and history, is captured”.
With these words, Minister of Tourism Olga Kefalogianni welcomed the guests at the event at the Acropolis Museum on the occasion of the completion of the exhibition of the American photographer Robert McCabe. The event was attended by politicians, artists, intellectuals, ambassadors and diplomats.
Referring to the importance of the exhibition, Mrs Olga Kefalogianni stressed that with his realism and aesthetic quality, Robert McCabe offers a valuable and unique view of our country. She added:
“His photographic lens highlights people, history, natural beauty and culture. He captures monuments, architecture, professions, occupations and habits of everyday life. He records yet another Greece of toil, of limited means, but also of perspective, of hope for a better future. Robert McCabe describes the country in detail, but he also penetrates the emotional level, our inner being, as his photographs return us to places and people, stirring up memories and narratives that are well hidden in the past.”
“Robert McCabe’s photographs,” stressed the Minister of Tourism, “are a moving portrayal of the resilience and timelessness of the culture and spirit of the Greek people. And they motivate us to ensure a future in which Greece’s heritage continues to inspire and fascinate people from every corner of the world.”
As Mrs Olga Kefalogianni pointed out, “our aim is to take this exhibition abroad, with the promotion of Greek tourism as a goal.”
The first stop will be Tokyo, Japan, from 25 September to 2 October, as this year the “Year of Culture and Tourism between Greece and Japan” is celebrated.
